Leonard Malmanger, 63, passed away on September 25, 2023, in Mineral Wells, Texas.
Leonard Ole Malmanger was born July 30, 1960, in DeWitt, Iowa, to Kenneth Ellsworth Malmanger and Malinda (Paulsen) Malmanger. After graduating from Calamus High School in 1978, Leonard answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States Marines, proudly serving from 1978 to 1982. Following his military service, he pursued his passion for aviation and attended A&P School in Somerset, Kentucky, graduating in 1985.
Leonard was a true wanderer, making his home in various places across the United States and beyond. He lived in Lafayette, LA; Rockport, TX; Galveston, TX; Arizona; El Centro, CA; Lake Charles, LA; Jamaica; and McGrath, Bethel, and Nome, Alaska. His work took on different forms throughout his life, from being a skilled helicopter mechanic in Louisiana, Texas, and Jamaica to becoming an airplane mechanic in Arizona, California, and Alaska. Leonard also enjoyed the open road, working as a long-haul trucker and a pilot car driver.
He is survived by his siblings, Gail Cross of Mesa, AZ; Dennis (Sue) Malmanger of Janesville, WI; Joel (Denise) Malmanger of Grand Mound, IA; Jane Wilson of Phoenix, AZ; Barry Malmanger of Ridgefield, WA; Luanne (Darian) Ociadacz of Cle Elum, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Committal Service and Military Rites will be held at Kvindherred Cemetery, rural Calamus, on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2023 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in his honor.
