Leola Marie "Lee" Schmidt, 78, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Fieldstone of DeWitt.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in the church, the Rev. Eric Obermann officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Clinton, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church and Camp, DeWitt.
Leola was born November 4, 1944, to Joseph and Gennice (Franck) Schmidt in Clinton, Iowa. She graduated from DeWitt High School. Lee worked for Schmidt Family Farms in Andover and DeWitt, Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, the Soil Conservation Service, and DeWitt Memorial Company.
Lee was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt, where she served faithfully in many roles, including Sunday school, V.S.B., summer camp and retreats, choir, Eve Circle and Grace Lutheran Women. Lee belonged to the Lucky Strike bowling league, and served as president of the Women’s Bowling Association and the Youth Bowling Board. She was local and state president of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and treasurer of the DeWitt Area Working Women. Lee also enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels.
Lee loved bowling, teaching children, visiting the elderly, flowers, gardening, NASCAR and stock car races, dogs and cats, and most of all, her Lord.
She is survived by numerous cousins and extended family. Lee was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister, JoAnn Schmidt.
