Lawrence “Larry” Hudson, 94, of Dubuque, formerly of Low Moor, Iowa, passed away peacefully January 29, 2022, at MercyOne Medical Center, Dubuque.
Larry was born December 22, 1927, to Fay and Ada (Roesger) Hudson in Low Moor, Iowa. After graduating from Clinton High School in 1945, he served in the U.S. Army at the conclusion of WWII. Upon his return, he received an associate degree and began his career in accounting. He married Shirley Miller August 26, 1951, in DeWitt. They were the parents of three boys, Thomas, Michael, and Joseph. The couple resided in Low Moor until the 1980s and retired to Arizona in the 1990s. Shirley preceded him in death in 2013.
Larry had been a longtime member of the Low Moor Methodist Church. He enjoyed gathering with family and friends. After losing his sight to glaucoma, Larry liked to keep busy by baking, knitting, exercising, riding a tandem bike with Shirley, as well as many other activities.
Surviving are his son, Joe of Chicago, and granddaughter, Mindi (Kyle) Smith of Dickeyville, Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Jarred and Caitlin Smith; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his sons, Tom and Mike, sisters, Maxine (Bruce) Anderson, Donna (Don) Reher, and Sandra (Don) Sterbenz.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 3, 2022, at Low Moor Methodist Church, pastor Kären Larson officiating. Interment will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
