Karla Kay Schultz

Karla Kay Schultz, 70, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed at home with family at her side, Friday, March 18, 2022.

Karla was born October 28, 1951, in DeWitt, Iowa, to Louis and Janet (Simmons) Schultz. She graduated from Central Community Schools in DeWitt in 1970. Karla worked several retail jobs and owned her own flower shop in DeWitt for several years. She loved Washington State and moved between there and DeWitt many times. Karla moved back to DeWitt permanently in 2015 to be close to her sons. She enjoyed gardening and had a great passion for flowers.

She is survived by her 3 sons, Justin (Darla) Birks, Jeremy Birks, and Jason Birks, all of DeWitt; grandchildren, Matthew (Katie) Birks of Georgia, Lexi (JT Vanderbilt) Birks of DeWitt, Jennifer Smith of Clinton, Jessica Birks of DeWitt, Branden Russell of Missouri, Cody Birks of Vancouver, Washington, Kyle Birks of Independence, Morgan, Ripley, and Tyler Birks all of Indiana, Ian Birks of California, and Marley Rogers stationed with Air Force; great-grandchildren, Tucker and Sawyer Smith, and Ryker Kirk all of Clinton; sisters, Tara Hublou and Crystal Marsh both of Washington, Kerri Davidson of Colorado, and Kimmie Schultz of Minneapolis; a brother, Greg Schultz of New Mexico; nieces and nephews; and her sister by choice, Teri Ginnard Gaul of Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Melissa Davidson.

There will be no visitation or funeral as her body will be donated to the University of Iowa for cancer research.
