Karen Kuehl

Karen Kuehl, 85, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Friday, February 14, 2025, at Fieldstone of DeWitt.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home DeWitt from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2025, with a service at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment following at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

Karen Elaine Hospadarsky was born September 29, 1939, to Richard “Dick” and Myrna (Conyers) Hospadarsky, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Immediately following her graduation from DeWitt High School in 1957, Karen began her career as a legal secretary, working for the Law Office of William Mockridge. Karen married James Kuehl on June 22, 1958. The couple resided in DeWitt, raising their son, Brian. Karen earned her P.L.S. certification and was a member of the Iowa Association of Professional Legal Secretaries. Her career spanned over 60 years in the same law office, retiring from Condon & Condon in 2020, at the age of 80.

Karen was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. She had a deep love for animals, especially cats, always opening her heart and home to strays in need. She was a compassionate and forgiving mother, embracing life with kindness and generosity. She enjoyed bowling, even achieving the rare and impressive feat of a perfect 300 game. She took pride in keeping a tidy home filled with her cherished treasures and found great satisfaction in tending to her lawn and garden. With a spirited sense of adventure, she could often be seen behind the wheel of her white Corvette, a testament to her vibrant personality. Her husband, Jim, preceded her in death in 2019.

She is survived by her son Brian (Kim) Kuehl of DeWitt; grandchildren, Christopher Kuehl, Eric Kuehl and Kali Kuehl; sisters, Barb (Dave) Wold, and Terri Shelton; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vicki (Donald) Roffman.
