Julia (Mrs. Kermit) “Judy” Ketelsen, 92 of Charlotte, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus in Davenport.
Julia was born April 8, 1928, to Frank and Willemena (Outzen) Mensinger in Clinton, Iowa. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1946 and worked as a bookkeeper. Julia was united in marriage to Kermit Ketelsen on July 31, 1949, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte. She devoted herself to raising her children, being a homemaker and farm wife. Kermit preceded her in death on September 28, 2010.
Julia was a longtime and active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She belonged to the local Bunco club and the quilter’s guild for many years. She participated in living history days, demonstrating her wool spinning skills. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, doing macramé, pottery, ceramics, and other crafts. She was always baking, even into later years. No one ever left her house hungry.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Twila and Jim Robinson, Le Claire, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, Kurt and Colleen Ketelsen, DeWitt; grandchildren, Carsten, Creighton, Weston, Alicia and April; great-grandchildren, Abe, Ava, Andrew, and Chase; siblings, Lyman Hass, Lorraine Hass, and Gene Hass; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Maynard Mensinger, and Fernanna Starbuck.
A Private Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2020, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte. A Public Graveside service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
