Joy Rothbart Obituary

Joy Rothbart, 68, of Grand Mound, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 16, 2021, at home following a long battle with cancer.

Joy Ellen Kennedy was born November 11, 1952, to Melvin and Elneta (Ihrig) Kennedy in Maquoketa, Iowa. She graduated from Central Community Schools in DeWitt. She worked at Skeffington’s Supermarket in the produce department for many years. She later worked for Car Freshener, retiring in 2016.

Joy enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, gardening, arts and crafts, lottery “scratchers,” and the clearance isle.

She is survived by her children, Jon (Susan) Marlowe of Welton, Chad (Desiree) Marlowe of Oswego, Illinois, and Jodi (Steve) May of Davenport; grandchildren, Brittany, Kali, Madeline, Chloe and Carter, Chance and Mace, and Elise, Lily, and Evie; her mother, Elneta Kennedy of Welton; and a sister, JoAnn (Robert) Loose of DeWitt; and brother-in-law, Dennis Walker; nieces, nephews, and cousins, and Rita.

She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin, a brother, Alvin, sisters, Alice, Barbara, and Molly.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. A Celebration of Life will be held at her childhood home, 2488 180th Street Delmar, Iowa 52037, on May 30, 2021, beginning at 4:00 p.m.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Heartland Hospice, especially Kris, Stacey, Chrissy, Scott, and Meredith, for their excellent care and compassion.
