John "Doug" Dalton Obituary

John “Doug” Dalton, 80, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center in DeWitt, following a brief illness.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

John Douglas “Doug” Dalton was born March 13, 1942, to Harold and Mary Ellen (Forret) Dalton in Clinton, Iowa. He graduated from Grand Mound High School. He married Rita Knoche on November 12, 1960, at Sts. Philip & James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. John served 4 years in the U.S. Navy. The couple moved back to DeWitt in 1965, where they raised their family. John worked as an industrial electrician for ALCOA, retiring as an electrical foreman in 1994. After retirement, he continued to be active as a consultant for ALCOA for 10 years, he also enjoyed delivering flowers for Selk’s Flower Shop.

John was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He enjoyed being outdoors, mowing lawns, helping others, hunting, and curating his 40 acres of timber. John bowled in several leagues for 36 years at the DeWitt Lanes. He also enjoyed going to the local casinos with his wife, and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Rita; children, Karma (Michael) Kelly of Bettendorf, and Trent (Lori) Dalton of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Bryce (Jessalyn) Kelly, Brendan (Cara) Kelly, Samuel (Claire Brejcha) Dalton, Michaela Kelly, and Benjamin Dalton; a great-grandson, Gavin Eugene Kelly, and a great-granddaughter on the way; a brother, Robert (Anne) Dalton; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Todd James Dalton in March of 1969, and brothers, Edward (Bernice) and Frederick “Fritz” (Mindy).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or charity of choice.
