John Stacer Obituary

John Stacer, 77, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 25, 2019, at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt.

John was born December 12, 1941, to John and Elsie (Kincaid) Stacer in Kansas City, MO. After graduating from North Kansas City High School in 1959, he received a B.A. in psychology from William Jewell College in Liberty MO, a Master’s degree in Education from Truman State University in Kirksville, MO, and later a Master’s degree in Communications from the University of Iowa. John served in the United States Air Force, stationed at Mather A.F.B. in Sacramento, CA, during the Viet Nam War. He married Lucille “Cille” Lair in 1964 in Fair Oaks, CA. John worked as a medical photographer at K.C.O.M. in Kirksville, as Public Relations Director at Muscatine Community College, and later as I.T. Specialist at Trinity Lutheran School and Church in Davenport. After retiring, the couple settled in Blue Grass and recently moved to DeWitt.

John was a very talented musician, playing the drums, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, and clarinet. He had played in the Air Force Cadet Band and later in the community bands of Kirksville, C.A.S.I., and DeWitt. He was also a Ham radio enthusiast, competitive shooter, skilled woodworker and photographer.

John is survived by his loving wife, Cille; children, Glenna (John) Sayles of Evergreen, CO, Julia Stacer of Brighton, CO, Clark Stacer of Eugene, OR, and Dennis Stacer of Kansas City, KS; grandchildren, Addison and Ellis Sayles, Ian and Fiona Melady, and Veda Stacer; siblings, Louise (Eric) Alexander and Doug Stacer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial visitation will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 2, 2019, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in DeWitt. A memorial  service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church.
