John Hansen Obituary

John Henry Hansen, 75, formerly of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully June 13, 2020, surrounded by his wife and children.

He was one of four sons born March 17, 1945, to Alfred and Vera Hansen.  John married Diane (Moeller) Hansen June 9, 1973.  He was a longtime cattleman, raising purebred Charolais cattle.  John spent much of his life working alongside his father on the family farm. Upon moving to Missouri in 1995, he was a civil servant, working at the Lawrence County Courthouse for many years.

John was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Springfield, Missouri.  He enjoyed many hobbies, but his greatest love was cattle. From childhood on, John spent time every day working with cattle and could be found at the sale barn twice a week after retirement. He also enjoyed bowling, watching old westerns, golfing with the boys and going fishing, a love he passed on to his kids and grandkids.

He was a loving husband of 47 years to Diane; father to Kelly (Zack) Smith of Branson, Missouri, Kyle (Elizabeth) Hansen of Ankeny, Luke (April) Hansen of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Cody (Katie) Hansen of Springfield, Missouri and Abby (Mike) Tochtrop of Washington, Missouri, and was a wonderful grandpa to Ethan, Liam, Elyse, Adalyn, Jacob, Alayna, Lincoln, and James. John was also a brother to Lauren, Roger, and Kevin.  He is already greatly missed.

A service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Springfield, Missouri, at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020, with a luncheon immediately following.

Memorial donations may be made to Lost and Found Grief Center, Preferred Hospice Care or Redeemer Lutheran Church.
