John "Whiplash" W. Dann, 63, formerly of Camanche, Iowa, died Thursday evening, August 1, 2013 at home.
Family and friends may visit from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Celebration of John's life will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 613 10th Street, DeWitt.
John William Dann was born February 21, 1950, in Clinton, Iowa, to Arthur E. and Jeanette M. (Hoist) Dann. He was a 1969 graduate of Camanche High School. On December 6, 1969, John was united in marriage to Carelyn "Charlie" Hoffmann in DeWitt, Iowa. John owned and operated Char-John Trucking Company for many years until retirement.
He enjoyed boating, tractor pulls, NASCAR and spending time with family and friends. John took great pride in his semis and spent countless hours making sure they looked just right.
Surviving are his loving wife of 43 years, Charlie; children, Billie Dann of Grove, Oklahoma, Bobbie (Gary) Hemesath of DeWitt, and Jay (Angela) Dann of Moscow, Iowa; grandchildren, Joseph (Amanda Panter) Proud, II, James Proud, Jackson Dann-Chambers, Brandi (Jack Smith) Hemesath, Mersaydes Hemesath, Carter Hemesath, Alayna Dann and Damian Dann; a great-grandchild, Makinley Rock; sisters, nieces and nephews.
Preceding John in death were his parents, three sisters, two brothers, a sister-in-law, three brothers-in-law, two grandchildren and his beloved dog, Charger.
