Joan Irene Lass

Joan Irene Lass, 89, of DeWitt, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Grand Haven in her home.

Joan was born October 20, 1931, to August and Caroline (Dohrmann) Doescher in DeWitt. She graduated from DeWitt High School. On August 7, 1951, Joan was united in marriage to Ronald P. Lass at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Joan was a loving wife, and together with her husband, raised her family and worked many years at First Central State Bank until retirement. Ron preceded her in death October 14, 2008.

Joan was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, where she was very active in various groups and committees. She enjoyed quilting with ladies at the church, making cards with her group of friends, and outings with the Red Hat Society. Joan kept herself busy after retirement in her many clubs, and clerking for GMB Auction Service. She also enjoyed traveling between Colorado and Texas to visit her family.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Diane Lass, Dumas, Texas; a daughter Carol Martin, Northglenn, Colorado, Lisa (Bob) Hilbert; grandchildren, Karen Elizabeth (Dustin) Schutt, Michael David Whipple, Brett James Whipple, Robert Sutton, and Stephanie Lass, Jacqueline Jo Ilg; great-grandchildren, Maddox Schutt, and Travis Klancher; three step-grandchildren, Amber Bellis, Crystal (Mario) Jimenez, Jeremy Martin; four step-great-grandchildren, Colin and Cade Bellis, Ava Grace and Mia Jimenez; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Wayne Martin, sisters, brothers, and in-laws.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt from 10:00 until 10:45 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020.  A Service of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church, with the Rev. Eric Obermann officiating.  The service will be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/schultzfuneralhomes/live.  Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
