Jeanne Hartmann

Jeanne Hartmann, 84, of DeWitt, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at Fieldstone of DeWitt, following a prolonged illness.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Jeanne Marie Gehrmann was born December 10, 1940, in Clinton, Iowa, to John and Ethel (Kennedy) Gehrmann. She grew up in Folletts, Iowa, and graduated from Clinton High School in 1959. Jeanne was united in marriage to David Hartmann on June 4, 1965. The couple resided in rural Elvira where they were blessed with three children. David preceded her in death on April 20, 1997.

Jeanne worked several years at R.E.C. reading meters, and later in the kitchen at DeWitt Hospital for many years, retiring in 2012, at the age of 72. She also volunteered at Westwing for several years following retirement. Jeanne was a longtime member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and V.B.S. and was a Nightengal. Jeanne loved traveling, playing card games, and was a ruthless Spoons player. She and David were active in Clinton County Cattlemen and Pork Producers Associations. In early years, she also served as a 4-H leader.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue Hartmann and her husband Dave Hammond, both of DeWitt; a brother-in-law, Tom and his wife Susan Hartmann of Bellevue, Nebraska; nieces and a nephew, and their children; and her fur grand-babies, Clark, Eddie, and Edna.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, John, son, Bill, and sisters-in-law, Anne and her husband Paul Mardorf, and Linda Hartmann.

In lieu of flowers, donations made to the family will be divided among Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, MercyOne Genesis Hospice, and Rescued.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Grand Haven, Fieldstone, and MercyOne Genesis Hospice for the exceptional care given to Jeanne.
