Jeanette Ann Holmes

Jeanette Holmes, 91, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Kahl Home in Davenport.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2024.  A service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Mound.

Jeanette was born August 15, 1932, to Herbert and Ella Bumann north of Grand Mound, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Ezra “Junior” Holmes on October 19, 1952. They resided in Grand Mound, where they raised their only daughter, Judy. Jeanette worked as a nurse’s aide at DeWitt Community Hospital for 12 years, and then Cargil Seed for 17 years, until retiring. Junior preceded her in death in 1996.

Jeanette was a member of Westside Assembly of God Church in Davenport. She had been in Girl Scouts as a child, and later enjoyed leading Brownies and Girl Scouts in DeWitt. She belonged to card, nature, and knitting clubs. She enjoyed watching old Westerns and walking her dogs. Jeanette loved spending time with her two granddaughters, and her very special great-granddaughter, Ella.

She is survived by her granddaughters, Amanda Herbers and Alesha (Cody) Stallings of Davenport; her great-granddaughter, Ella Herbers; a son-in-law, Joseph Dunn of Davenport; close friend and caregiver, James; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Dunn, 3 sisters and her parents.
