Jean Johnson, 84, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Monday morning, August 30, 2021, at Genesis East, Davenport.
Jean was born July 26, 1937, to Lloyd and Maureen (Quigley) Johnson in Pontiac, Illinois. After graduating from high school, Jean served in the U.S. Army from 1961 until he was honorably discharged in 1963. He then worked for several years at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in the Quad Cities. Jean married Barb Bennett, on September 19, 1969, at The First Christian Church in East Moline, Illinois. The couple resided in Moline, where Jean worked for True Value Hardware in Moline and Rock Island. They moved to the Delmar, Iowa area in 1999, and retired to DeWitt in 2014.
Jean enjoyed watching football, especially the Bears. He also enjoyed traveling out west, and trips to St. Louis.
He is survived by his wife, Barb; a half-brother, Stanford Johnson of California; brother-in-law, Harold Bennett of Mt. Vernon, Washington, and sister-in-law, Ellen Parris of Johnston, Iowa; nephews, Nathan (Stephannie) Parris, and Luke (Sara) Parris; 4 great-nephews and 1 great-niece.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Susan Bennett.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 2, 2021, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021, at Schultz Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
