Jean Elizabeth (Pietscher) Gravert

Jean Gravert, 95, formerly of Delmar, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home in Iowa City.

Jean Elizabeth Pietscher was born January 23, 1926, in Princeton, Iowa to Frank and Gladys (Dannatt) Pietscher. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in Scott county and graduated from High School. Jean married Ray Gravert on May 6, 1944. The couple farmed in the Low Moor area, later moving to Delmar where she was a homemaker and raised their children.

Jean loved family and friends, unconditionally. She was a great baker, and was famous for her Christmas cookie plates. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, and playing cards. Jean loved to decorate her home, especially at Christmas, her favorite holiday. She enjoyed all kinds of birds and would watch them for hours at her window feeders. Her favorite was the cardinal. She enjoyed and knew the names of most blooming plants and had a natural “green-thumb.”

Jean will be terribly missed by her immediate family, children, Bonnie (Allan) Levien of Iowa City, and Doug (Cindy) Gravert of Maquoketa; grandchildren, Dan, Brian, and Nathan Mohr, Christine Bolander, and Tia Chapo; great-grandchildren, Gwen Bolander, and Olivia and Braiden Chapo; her special family, Ronnie and Bonnie Sheridan and their daughter, Molly.

She will be missed as a mother, grandmother, friend and confidant to all she knew and loved.

Per her wishes, there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 25, 2021, from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Grossman Hall in Delmar.
