Obituary

Ingwer “Fred” Feddersen, 87, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully early Sunday, July 9, 2023, at Wheatland Manor.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the church, with Sister Janet Heiar officiating. Burial and Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eugene McManus American Legion Post #238.

Fedder Ingwer Feddersen was born November 23, 1935, in Borsbull, Germany, the son of Sonke and Engline (Paulsen) Feddersen. While growing up in Germany, he apprenticed as a blacksmith. At the age of 19, Ingwer emigrated to the United States, soon settling in Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army as an Artillery Surveyor from 1958 until 1960. Ingwer married Margaret Knudsen on October 7, 1961, in Lost Nation, Iowa. He became a proud U.S. Citizen on December 3, 1962. They resided in Clinton, where they raised 4 children. Ingwer was employed by Ragan Co., as a pipefitter.  In 1970, the family moved to a farm north of DeWitt, where they spent the next 4 decades. Ingwer retired in 1998. He and Margaret moved to DeWitt in 2007.

Ingwer enjoyed playing cards with his German friends, using his welding skills to fix and fabricate, dancing with Margaret, and having a good German drink.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret; children, Karen Feddersen of Atalissa, Sandra (Scott) Roenfeldt of Walcott, Dan (Julie) Feddersen of Ames, and Deb (Todd) Prier of Ryan, Iowa; grandchildren, Candace Rada, Hunter (Makayla) Roenfeldt, Rachael Roenfeldt, Jake (Julia) Feddersen, Ben, Amy, and Sarah Feddersen, James (Brynn) Prier, and Emily Prier; a brother, Honie (Marielene) Feddersen; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ferdinand (Karin) Feddersen, Heinrich (Helene) Feddersen, and Peter Gottburg Feddersen, and a sister, Ida (Moritz) Carstensen.
