Harriet Hand Obituary

Harriet Hand, 90, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Monday, January 19, 2026, at Fieldstone of DeWitt.

Harriet Fae Lindeman was born June 19, 1935, in Grand Mound, Iowa, to Harry and Selma (Petersen) Lindeman. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1954. She married Harold D. Hand on September 25, 1954, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Welton where she was a member for many years. The couple farmed and raised their family of five children at rural Welton.

Harriet was a devoted farm wife who took great pride in caring for her family and home. She was known for preparing wonderful meals and was actively involved in Farm Bureau, county extension programs, and served as a 4-H leader for many years. Family meant everything to Harriet, and she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and proud great-grandmother. Blessed with an amazing memory, she never forgot birthdays or anniversaries and delighted in staying connected with those she loved. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, traveling, and casino trips, with Las Vegas feeling like a second home. Above all, Harriet was always looking out for others, wanting to take care of everyone and make sure all were well.

Surviving are her children, Patricia (Roger) Bladel of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Laura (Thomas) Gizicki and Connie Crump of Bettendorf, Larry (Dawn) Hand of LeClaire and Mary Kay (Scott) Wirth of Maquoketa; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, with Funeral Mass following at 11:00 a.m. the Rev. Fr. David Brownfield officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, DeWitt.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Grand Haven in Eldridge, Heartland Hospice, and Fieldstone of DeWitt for their exceptional care and compassion given to Harriet during her time with them.
