Harold Peter Irwin, 87, of Calamus, died Monday evening, November 21, 2011 at Wheatland Manor, Wheatland, Iowa.

Harold was born April 26, 1924 to John and Wilhelmina (Geppert) Irwin in Kimball, South Dakota. He married Gladys (Dosland) on November 30th, 1944, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Harold served in the United States Army during WWII.

He worked his whole life farming in Clinton County. He loved Polka-dancing with his wife Gladys, anything to do with horses, tinkering with cars (especially ones with loud mufflers), and was proud of his family’s achievements.

Surviving are his children, John (Mary) Irwin, Maquoketa; Jerry (Ruth) Irwin, Grand Mound; Diane (Herb) Wilhelm, Lost Nation; Cindy (Brian) Will, Calamus; Colleen (Mark) Meggers, Clinton; Kathy (Steve) Marten, New Liberty; Daughter- in- Law, Marilyn Irwin, LeClaire; Foster daughter Mary Tayloe, Minneapolis, MN; Sisters, Marcella McDermott, and Delores Spain; grandchildren, Heidi Prince, Heather Foster, Matthew Irwin, Mitchell Irwin, Maria Jacobsen, Neil Irwin, Jim Irwin Jr., Sheree Irwin, Jeff Irwin, Amber Claussen, Adam Wilhelm, Dareck Will, Daniel Will, Karleen Looney, Deena Maher, Ashley Werden, Kelsey Marten, Danika, Marten. 7 step-grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren (and growing).

In addition to his wife, Gladys, Harold was preceded in death by a Son, Harold James, Daughter-in-law Laura Irwin, and brother, Lloyd.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday November 25, 2011. The Liturgy of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 in SS Philip & James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. Military rites by Magnus M. Peterson American Legion #466 will be conducted. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Calamus.

Harold's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
