Mr. Harold D. Hand, 95, of DeWitt, Iowa, died early Monday morning, March 9, 2020, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Harold David Hand was born September 4, 1924, in Clinton to Dave and Lydia (Powers) Hand. He graduated from Elvira High School in 1942 and attended St. Ambrose University, Davenport. Harold married Harriet Lindeman September 25, 1954, at St. Anne Catholic Church, Welton where he was a member for many years. The couple farmed and raised their family of five children at rural Welton.
He was also a longtime member of the Welton Fire Department and Clinton County Cattleman, cooking many pounds of beef for cattleman social functions. He was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed traveling, casino trips and playing cards with two card clubs. Above all, Harold was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa and also looked forward to the many wonderful family gatherings.
Surviving are his loving wife of over 65 years, Harriet; children, Patricia (Roger) Bladel of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Laura (Thomas) Gizicki and Connie Crump of Bettendorf, Larry (Dawn) Hand of LeClaire and Mary Kay (Scott) Wirth of Maquoketa; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Dale) Eggers of Maquoketa; a sister-in-law, Jerri Hand of Camanche; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret Mary Hand and brothers, Joseph, David and Glen Hand.
The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2020, with a vigil service at 4:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt with the Rev. Fr. H. Robert Harness officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Matt Bladel, John Gizicki, Justin Gizicki, Andrew Gizicki, Tyler Crump, Chad Hand, Cory Wirth and nephew, Jim Hand.
The family extends their sincere thanks to Genesis Hospice and Clarissa Cook Hospice for the loving care shown to Harold and family.
