Gwenda Sievers, 84, of Calamus, passed away peacefully, Saturday, November 23, 2024, in her home.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2024, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound, the Rev. John Dolde officiating. Burial will follow at Kvindherred in rural Calamus.
Gwenda Mae Davisson was born July 2, 1940, with her twin sister, Glenda, to Charles and Lelia (Weiss) Davisson in Lost Nation, Iowa. She grew up in rural Calamus, graduating from Calamus High School in 1958. She worked at Davenport Bank following high school and then Maquoketa Bank, where she met the love of her life, John Sievers. They were married on December 30, 1961, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Rural Calamus. The couple farmed south of Grand Mound, moving to Calamus in 1978. Gwenda was also a homemaker, raising 3 children. She later worked for Iowa Mutual Insurance for over 20 years, eventually retiring from US Bank. John preceded her in death in 2013.
Gwenda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound. She enjoyed mowing her lawn, riding her gator, and taking care of the farm. She would try to fix anything, and sometimes did. She was always on the lookout for a new mower or tractor, never missing an opportunity to drive through the lot at P&K and Kunau. She was a very determined and independent lady, and her family was always worried about her, but her favorite line was “just don’t tell Debbie!” Gwenda was universally loved by all who knew her. She always had a smile on her face and a contagious laugh. She was a special lady, she was caring, giving, encouraging, and most of all, loving. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She never missed a game or school event. She will be deeply missed by many.
Surviving are her children, Mark (Stacy) Sievers of Grand Mound, Debbie (Tom) Diercks of Grand Mound, and Barry (Christine Zimmer) Sievers of DeWitt; grandchildren, Robert, Anthony, and Grant Sievers, John (Mariah) Diercks, Jaelyn (Walker) Wegener, Jenna (fiancé Jason Shimp) Diercks, and Janna (Adam) Goodall, and Austin Sievers; great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Avery, Henry, Levi, Braxton, Alayna, and one on-the-way; step-grandchildren, Joseph and Caleb McKeon, John (Amy) Wietting, Amanda (Ken) DeWulf and Becky Crotty; step-great-grandchildren, Alyssa Johnson, Ryan and Emma Clark, Austin and Logan Wietting; step-great-great-grandchildren; twin sister, Glenda Evers; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Janis (Charles) Steinbeck, Duane (Janice) Davisson, Norman (Laura) Davisson, brother-in-law, Darrell Evers, daughter-in-law, Vicki Sievers, and granddaughter, Ashley McCandless.
