Gloria Kagemann Obituary

Gloria Ann Kagemann, 81, of DeWitt, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and was reunited with her loved ones and the Lord on Thursday, March 12, 2026 in DeWitt.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church in Grand Mound. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. with Funeral Mass following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Villa Nova Cemetery.

Gloria was born August 13, 1944, the daughter of George and Viola (Timm) Reiling in Toronto, Iowa. She was the eleventh of twelve children born to the couple. She attended Toronto Community School through 8th grade, graduating from Wheatland High School in 1962. Gloria married Alan Kagemann on January 26th, 1963 at St. James Catholic Church in Toronto, Iowa. They shared 63 years of marriage together and were blessed with five children. They resided several years on a farm near DeWitt, where Alan gave her the CB handle, “Smiley”. In early years, she enjoyed babysitting and ironing for people. Gloria later worked at True Value in Minonk, IL for 9 years and at the DeWitt Referral Center for over 10 years.

Gloria loved being around people and enjoyed all of the friendships she made. Raising her children was her greatest love. Church was important to her, and she raised her children in the Catholic Faith. There was nothing more important to her than being a loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma.

Gloria was one of the kindest people you could meet. She would smile and had a gentle voice filled with love. Gloria enjoyed walks and trips to Dollar General where she visited with anyone she encountered. The holidays were her favorite time of year. She loved decorating the house for each season, making dozens of cookies and popcorn balls at Christmas because she knew how much her family enjoyed them. Mom looked forward to the annual shopping trip with her girls.

Gloria never missed a birthday or anniversary, sending cards for each loved one on her list. As the family grew, she and Alan enjoyed watching the grandchildren play sports. On special occasions, Gloria enjoyed boat rides on the river. She dreamed of having a lavender Thunderbird and had fun getting lottery tickets in hopes of buying that car.

Gloria put others before herself, sacrificing her wants if it meant someone else would benefit. Gloria was the glue who held her family together. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Alan; her children, Lori (Mike) Brown of Walker, Iowa, Tammy (Kurt) Crosthwaite of Grand Mound, Iowa, Ricky (Reggie) Kagemann of Maquoketa, Iowa, Cheryl (Kevin) Williams of Davenport, Iowa, and Jennifer (Craig) Karpf of Anamosa, Iowa; grandchildren, Nathan (Allie) Yanecek, Alex (Haillie) Yanecek, Morgan (Nick) Wolfe, Noah (Aubree) Crosthwaite, Rozlynn Kagemann, Kevin Williams, Jr. and Tasha (Justin) Simmons; great-grandchildren, Zayne, Delanie, Madie, Brooks, Nora, and Rylan; brothers, Rollie (Verlee) Reiling of Wheatland, Iowa, and Larry (Leah Ray) Reiling of Davenport, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Pat Reiling and Mary Reiling; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Fern Baur, Norma Sheldon, Phyllis Wieland, Karen Reiling, and Elaine McCormick; and brothers, Virtus Reiling, Kenny Reiling, Wayne Reiling, and LaVerne Reiling.
