George Paul Green

George Green, 81, of Grand Mound, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

George Paul Green was born June 22, 1938, to Raymond and Edna (Lund) Green in DeWitt, Iowa. After graduating from Grand Mound High School, he served in the US Army. George was united in marriage to Shirley Wulf on January 5, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clinton. George farmed in the Grand Mound area, sold John Deere equipment and cars. He was still employed with Krieger’s in DeWitt as a courtesy driver.

George was a member of SS. Philip & James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. He loved to play cards, especially Sheepshead, was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan, and a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. George had served on the Volunteer Fire Department, the Telephone Board, and was a member of the Sportsmen’s Club all in Grand Mound.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 56 years, Shirley; his loving children, Dawn (Bret) Dosland, Calamus, Christine Gladfelter, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Matthew Green, Grand Mound; grandsons, Conrad (Elizabeth) Dosland, Curtis Dosland, and Michael Gladfelter, a granddaughter, Megan Gladfelter (Connor Inglis); great-grandson, Brock Dosland; sister, Marilyn Jesswein and many nieces, nephews, in-laws, family, and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Patricia Bender, Elizabeth “Betty” Noel, and Charles Green; and son-in-law, John Gladfelter.

Visitation will be from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2019, at SS. Philip & James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday December 9, 2019, in the church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Grand Mound.
