Gary Meggers

Gary Meggers, 82, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Wheatland Manor.

Visitation will be at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2025. A Graveside Service and Military Rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Prairie Union Cemetery, Low Moor. Iowa Hawkeye colors are welcome.

Gary Albert Meggers was born September 28, 1942, in DeWitt, Iowa, to Chris and Florence (Lee) Meggers. He Graduated from DeWitt High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving one term. During his time in the service, he met Myrna, the mother of his children, while stationed in Pennsylvania. They were married shortly thereafter, on December 5, 1964, and settled in DeWitt, where they raised their 3 children. They later divorced. Gary farmed his whole life and also worked for Dupont retiring after 35 years.

Farming was his true passion, and he took great pride in working the land. He especially enjoyed driving his Allis-Chalmers tractors, often participating in local parades with them. A lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes fan, he rarely missed a game. He also liked to try his luck now and then, enjoying the occasional spin at the casino.

More than anything, Gary loved his family. He cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and pride.

Surviving are his children, Scott (Lynette) Meggers of Grand Mound, Christi (Mike) Fuller of Welton, and Courtni (Matt) Meade of Linn Creek, MO; grandchildren, Lexi (Chad) Wilson, Remington and Mackenzie Meggers, John Roden, Jacob Brogden, Haley (Leopold) Peque, Hanna Brogden, Hunter, Jaida, Isabella, and Kaiden Houston, Marshall (Kaitlin) Nicolay, Maddison (Nate) Keeney, Sebastian Meggers, Kennedy Struck, Bailey, Molly, and Marco Meade; greatgrandchildren, Bennett, Isaac, Luca, Aleena, Kinley, Ryleigh, Whitley, and Maebree; sisters, Linda Goodman and Betty Brammerlo, and sister-in-law, Dorothy Meggers; nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his special friend and companion, Noreen Burken.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harold (Sara) Meggers, and Donald Meggers, and brother-in-law, Lawrence Brammerlo.
