Eugene Edward Andresen was born in Clinton, Iowa on August 7, 1925, to Virtus and Viola (Willer) Andresen. Eugene married Madeline Thomas on August 21, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt in a double wedding they shared with longtime friends Barb and Jerry Trimble. Gene became a hired hand on a neighboring farm and then rented land and borrowed machinery until he could sell a crop and afford a tractor, planter, corn picker. He started off renting 120 acres and 80 acres until he purchased both farms, one of his greatest accomplishments. The couple farmed for 45 years, retiring to DeWitt in 1991. Gene and Madeline enjoyed 71 years of marriage. She preceded him in death in 2017.

Gene and Madeline enjoyed square-dancing and ballroom dancing, playing cards, Travelogues, traveling, and family dinners. Eugene celebrated his 100th birthday in August 2025, with his children, friends, and family at Fieldstone in DeWitt. He was well known as being a very sweet man. His children describe him as hard working, firm, honest, fair, compassionate and soft spoken (except when they didn’t make curfew). Eugene was a longtime member of St Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, since 1936. He was also a long time member of the Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his children, Sandi (Dave) Deke of DeWitt, Mary Jo (Allan) Behrens of Clinton, Bill (Corina) Andresen of DeWitt, Lynn (Holley) Andresen of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Tim (Megan) Heiar, Lisa (Matt) Roth, Tracy (Greg) Ellis, Chris (Holly) Deke, Heather (Todd) Kinney, Ryan (Betsey) Behrens, Michelle (Steve) Lange, Cody (Desiree) Schumacher, Nate Andresen, Zack Andresen, Noel (Chris) Paterson and Wyatt (Madison) Andresen; many great and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Madeline, he was preceded in death by sons, Joey, Bobby, and Ronnie, daughter, Gloria (Larry) Heiar, and brother, Leroy (Marge) Andresen.
