Esther Schroeder, 94, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Fieldstone of DeWitt.
Esther Louise Latare was born March 30, 1928, to Fred and Anna (Christophersen) Latare in Wyoming, Iowa. She graduated from Wyoming High School. Esther was united in marriage to Everett Schroeder on November 27, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Wyoming, Iowa. The couple resided in Lost Nation where they raised their daughters, Sandra and Janice. Esther worked at First Trust and Savings Bank in Lost Nation. They later moved to DeWitt, where she worked at Iowa Mutual and First Central State Bank. Everett preceded her in death in 2012.
Esther was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt. She was also a charter member of the DeWitt Lionesses, and a former member of the local Plus 60 Club.
She enjoyed playing solitaire, doing puzzles, and playing pinochle. She loved cooking and was known for her cowboy cookies.
Surviving are her daughter, Jan Stockstell of DeWitt; a son-in-law, Eldon Witthoft; grandchildren, Sara (Darin) Ladlie, Susan (Ryan) Basye, and Steven (Tina) Witthoft; great-grandchildren, Heather, Jacob, Adam, Geneva, and Tori; 5 great-great-grandchildren; nephews and a niece.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandy, a son-in-law, Ronald Stockstell, brothers, Harold, Arnold, and Donald, a niece, Wendy, and nephew, Bob.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be in the Lost Nation Cemetery, at a later date. Memorials may be designated to Grace Camp.
