Elaine (Mrs. Lawrence) McCormick, 91, of DeWitt, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Wheatland Manor, following a brief illness.
Elaine Ethel Reiling was born March 5, 1933, to George and Viola (Timm) Reiling of Toronto, Iowa. She graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1951. Elaine was united in marriage to Lawrence McCormick on July 6, 1951. The couple resided in Wisconsin, Toronto (Iowa), and California before settling in DeWitt in 1967. Lawrence preceded her in death on March 8, 2023.
Elaine was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Bliedorn, where she was active in many capacities. She was also a member of the DeWitt American Legion Auxiliary, serving as an officer and was named member of the year for the state of Iowa in 1996. Elaine was involved for many years in the DeWitt Hospital Auxiliary, where she served as an officer and volunteered in various roles. Elaine and Lawrence enjoyed 72 wonderful years together. They loved traveling, and visited all 50 states. She and Lawrence could very often be seen walking together around DeWitt.
Surviving are her children, Dennis (Lori) McCormick of New Prague, Minnesota, and Diane (Ron) Fletcher of DeWitt; grandchildren, Chris McCormick, Staci (Kip) Kelley, Nate (Kara) McCormick, Luke (Courtney) Fletcher, Donovan (Faith) Fletcher, and Bryant Fletcher; great-grandchildren, Hazyl, Izaya, Walker, Malcolm, Kaylee, Aubrey, Brody, and Clayton; siblings, Rollie (Verlee) Reiling, Larry (Leah Rae) Reiling, and Gloria (Alan) Kagemann; sisters-in-law, Pat Reiling, and Mary Reiling; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Fern Bauer, Norma (Lyle) Sheldon, Phyllis (Tony) Weiland, Virtus (Joanne) Reiling, Kenny Reiling, Wayne Reiling, Karen Reiling, and LaVerne Reiling.
Family will greet relatives and friends at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bliedorn, Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the service time of 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Eugene McManus DeWitt American Legion Post #238, or the DeWitt American Legion Auxiliary.
