Edward Charles Witt was born on July 10, 1933, to Ferd and Adeline (Dammann) Witt in DeWitt, Iowa. He attended country schools in the DeWitt area, graduating from 8th grade. Ed worked on the family farm for many years. He married Shirley Marten on September 1, 1956, and they were married 68 years. The couple resided on a farm in rural Charlotte until 1960, then on a farm in rural Eldridge until 1968, when they purchased their own farm in rural DeWitt, where they raised their family and have resided since. Ed was very thrifty and had a knack for collecting and reselling many items.
In early years, Ed and Shirley spent many fun evenings dancing at the Fairyland Ballroom, the Col Ballroom, and the Davenport Fairgrounds. He enjoyed gardening, planting flowers and vegetables. In later years, Ed was an avid “junker” and had a passion for going to auctions and sales, always putting out the first bid. He loved his old tractor, far beyond it’s reasonable life span. Also very special to him was spending time with his grandson, Luke, and his beloved cat, Sammy
Surviving are his wife, Shirley; children, Laura Witt of Bettendorf, Loren Witt of Texas, and Larry (Melanie) Witt and their son, Luke Witt all of Camanche; a brother Alfred Witt of Delmar, a sister June Nordan of Fayetteville, NC; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald, a daughter, Lisa, twin grandchildren, Allison Grace and Larry Alan Jr., siblings, Henry (Avis) Witt, Wesley (Mary) Witt, and Gladys Wendhausen, and in-laws, Wilma Witt and Fred Nordan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Jane’s Place CASI in Davenport.
