Dwain Gale Goettsch

Dwain Goettsch, 90, of Calamus, Iowa, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 11, 2023.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2023, in the church, with burial in the church cemetery. Lunch will follow at the Grand Mound Community Center.

Dwain Gale Goettsch was born September 9, 1933, on a farm south of Calamus, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Agnes (Mueller) Goettsch. He graduated from Calamus Consolidated School in 1952. Dwain married Dorothy Green on June 13, 1953, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Davenport. The couple settled in Calamus, where they raised their family of 6 children. Dwain worked for Iowa Electric for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

Dwain was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Grand Mound, where he served as Elder. He had previously been a member of the Grand Mound Sportsmen’s Club, the Grand Mound Fire Department, Calamus School Board, and Calamus Lions. He was also a charter member of the Wapsi Oaks Country Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Dorothy, children, Denise Goettsch, Diane (Allen) Smith, Dodie (Jeff) Jacobi, Doreen (Daryl) Henning, Dawn (Albert) Green, Douglas (Sarah) Goettsch; 18 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister in law, Lucie Crawley; nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and stepmother, Mary, an infant sister, Arliss, his brother, Donald (Laurel) Goettsch, and sister, Uvonne “Sis” (Ed) Youngers.

Memorials are suggested to the Calamus Fire Department and the Calamus Little League.
