Dorothy “Dot” Gilbert, 85, of rural Delmar, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, May 14, 2024, with family at her side.
Dorothy Sophie Schade was born September 14, 1938, to Alfred and Hanna (Lange) Schade in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She graduated from Lowden High School and received a teaching degree from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. On May 27, 1961, Dorothy married Delbert Gilbert in Lowden. The couple settled on the family farm in Welton. Dorothy worked for the I-80 Truck Stop for over 50 years. Del preceded her in death in 2020.
She enjoyed traveling with Del and her children, especially to Branson, Missouri and Las Vegas, Nevada. She also enjoyed watching her “shows,” and outings to restaurants and shopping.
Surviving are her children, Jerry (Donna) Gilbert of Antioch, Illinois, Michael (Gayle) Gilbert and Holly (Scott) Hall of Delmar and Mark (Brandy) Gilbert of Atkins, Iowa; ten grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Del, she was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 30, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the American Legion in DeWitt, Iowa.
