Dorothy C. Ketelsen, 91, of DeWitt passed away, Tuesday, May 7, at Fieldstone of DeWitt.
Service of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt, with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. Eric Obermann will officiate. Burial will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt or Immanuel Lutheran Church in Charlotte.
Dorothy Caroline Ketelsen was born February 27, 1933, in Charlotte, Iowa, daughter of Christian and Alfreida (Gluesing) Schoolman. Dorothy graduated from Charlotte High School in 1951 where she was valedictorian. She married Raymond Ketelsen on September 16, 1951, in Charlotte at Immanual Lutheran church. He passed away on August 10, 1971. They farmed for many years, and in 1966 moved to Charlotte. Dorothy was a homemaker and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for 20 years. She also did childcare in her home in both Charlotte and DeWitt for 25 years.
She enjoyed time with her family, doing crafts, and watching the Hawkeyes and Cubs.
Surviving are her children, William (Jolene) Ketelsen of DeWitt, Lila Kleckner of Creston, John Ketelsen of Davenport, and Lori (Wayne) McClay of Genoa, Illinois; grandchildren, Seth Ketelsen of DeWitt, Chad Doty of Davenport, Melissa Leibe of Slidell, Louisiana, Michael McClay of Saint Petersburg, Florida, and Samantha McClay of Salida, Colorado; 3 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Nieland of Goose Lake and Arlene Grimm of Clinton; sisters-in-law, Betty Jo Ketelsen and Diane Ketelsen.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
