Donna Jean James

Donna James, 75, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully Monday, January 27, 2025, in her home, surrounded by loving family.

Donna Jean Stanton was born July 20, 1949, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Fred and Edna (Free) Stanton. She grew up in Eddyville, Iowa, where she attended school, and met the love of her life, Kenneth Clair James. They were married on June 11, 1966. The couple settled in Davenport, where they raised 3 children. In addition to being a devoted homemaker, Donna worked at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, and later Mac’s Tavern, both for many years. She then worked over 20 years for KC Enterprises, a vending company she and her son owned together. Kenneth preceded her in death on March 1, 1999.

Donna was a devoted Scout leader for over 20 years, a passion she shared with Kenneth. She cherished time spent with her family and extended family, creating lasting memories through camping, traveling, and countless shared adventures. Deeply involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, Donna’s love and care were evident in everything she did. She was incredibly talented, from crafting beautiful floral arrangements to preparing delicious meals that brought loved ones together. Her warmth and creativity made every holiday magical, leaving a legacy of love and cherished traditions.

She is survived by her sons, Brian (Jane Creighton) James, and Brad James both of Davenport; a granddaughter, Meghan (Nolan) Martin; 9 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Diana (Byron) Stanton Davidson, and Sedney (George) Eddy; sisters-in-law, Peggy Stanton, and Linda Stanton; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Fred “Butch” and Darell, a sister, Linda (Loren) Ferns, her grandson, Justin James, and her daughter, Barbara Annette James.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Schultz Funeral Home in DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2025, at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall.
