Donna Collum, 90, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Fieldstone of DeWitt.
Donna Gale Patten was born August 28, 1932, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the 5th child of John and Della (Smith) Patten. She graduated from high school in Grinnell, Iowa in 1950. Donna married Joseph M. Collum Jr. “Buster” on July 2, 1953, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grinnell. The couple resided in Brooklyn, Iowa until moving to DeWitt. Donna was a homemaker, raising 3 boys, and worked at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn. The couple moved to Welton, Iowa, where they owned and operated Collum Feed Service. Joe preceded her in death in 1996. After selling the feed store, she moved back to DeWitt, and continued to work part-time at Westwing in DeWitt.
Donna enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, doing handy-crafts, cooking, canning, and baking. She was a mom of little-league, pony-league, and men’s softball. Donna was a past member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Welton and present member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt.
Those left to cherish her memory include, Pat Collum of DeWitt, and Roger Collum of Lost Nation; a devoted daughter-in-law, Connie Collum of DeWitt; grandchildren, Cassandra (Mike Sabel) Collum, Derek Collum, Andrew Collum, Heather (Matt) Wilkinson, Bryant Collum, Kori Collum, and Kiyla (Rob Danm) DeVoss; great-grandchildren, Ackley and Hynson Sabel, Evangeline and Ophelia Wilkinson, and Ember DeVoss; siblings, Ed Patten, Nancy Tebbenhoff, Lila McCammant, Jim (Kathy) Patten; in-laws, Marvin LaCaeyse, Donald Brau, George Watson, Terry Collum, Robert (Marilyn) Collum, and David (Mary Jo) Collum; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael John, siblings, Wayne, Doraldine, Annabelle, Norma, Patty, and Linda; in-laws, Evelyn Patten, Orval Robinson, Carmen “Cocky” Wilson, Mary (Jeanie) Patten, Mary Ann (James) Plants, Delores LaCaeyse, Patricia Brau, Joyce Watson, Thomas Collum, James Collum and infant John Paul Collum.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Monday, January 9, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the church, the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
