Donald L. Griep, 95, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully early Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Fieldstone of DeWitt.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
Donald Leroy Griep was born August 18, 1928, in Princeton, Iowa, to Harry R. and Eva Irene (Bowman) Griep. He attended school until the 8th grade when he began farming. Donald Served in the Army Signal Corp. in the Korean War. Donald was united in marriage to Donna Faye Oesterborg on October 24, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed and raised their family at rural DeWitt near Elvira. Donna preceded him in death on December 14, 2017.
Donald was a lifelong member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, where he previously served on the church council and as financial secretary. He was also a member of the VFW, Farm Bureau of Clinton County, the Polka Club of Iowa-Eastern Chapter, American-German Pioneer Society of Scott County.
Surviving are his children, James (Danita) Griep of Schaller, Linda (Lindell “Skeeter”) Gosney of Littleton, Colorado, and Diane (Tom) Smull of St. Charles, Missouri; 8 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary (Vern) Irion; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ethel Griep, Alice Oldsen, and Robert (June) Griep.
