Dean Lawson

Dean Lawson, 82, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 8, 2022 where he was gloriously reunited with the love of his life, Jane Ann, who had waited patiently for him since 2011.

Dean was born on September 17, 1939, to Clifford and Geraldine (Barr) Lawson in Carthage, IL.  He graduated from Carthage High School, having lettered in football for his hard charging measures on the field.  Dean enlisted in the U.S. Army and served state-side for 3 years.  During his courtship with Jane Ann, he often wooed and dazzled her on the roller-skating rink.  As a result, they married and raised three thick-skulled sons for 48 years together.  Dean worked for Burlington Northern SF and later retired from Chicago Metra railroad.

Dean was passionate about sports, and loved watching football and basketball most.  He enjoyed fast cars, playing golf and woodworking.  He was ornery and cantankerous, but it was mostly in good fun and in good spirit.  He liked a good joke and had an easy laugh about him.

He is survived by sons, Curtis Lawson of Hannibal, MO, Kevin (Dana Madam) Lawson of Henderson, NV, Jay (Andrea) Lawson of DeWitt, IA; grandchildren, Tracy, Ana, Marcus, Megan, Tiffany, Samantha, Shanie, Brett, Collin, Jaxon and Lilah; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings Keith Lawson and Jane (Mert) Wetterich; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Delbert (and Marlys) Lawson, and two daughter-in-laws, Teri Lawson and Lorrie Lawson.

Services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. and a memorial service following at 2:00 p.m. at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.
