Dean Alan Geise was born April 27, 1940, the son of Leol and Evelyn (Schwien) Geise of Grand Mound, Iowa. After graduating from Grand Mound High School in 1958, Dean served in the US Army from 1958 to 1960 during which time, he served in Korea as a supply specialist. This was followed by 4 years in the Army Reserves, from 1960 to 1964, earning Sharpshooter and Marksman recognition. On March 3rd, 1961, Dean was united in marriage to Donna Albers, in the same church where they first met as preschoolers in Sunday School. Dean was a lifelong resident of Grand Mound, where the couple raised their family of three children. Dean was plant manager for C&J Farm Service Company for 35 years. After retirement he worked as a driver for Aurora Casket Co., and spent many hours helping at Geise Dairy.
Dean was an avid Outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing on the Wapsi and Wisconsin Rivers, and Canadian Lakes. Dean was a passionate gardener, generously giving away tomatoes by the bucketful. He tended the Geise Tree Farm with great devotion, having planted over 10,000 trees. Dean was a member of the Wapsi Game Club “The Cabin” and the Grand Mound Sportsman Club. Dean supported his community in many ways. He was a volunteer fireman, mentoring many young firefighters and first responders over his 41 years of service with the Grand Mound Fire Department. He also delivered Meals on Wheels, volunteered for the DeWitt Referral Center’s Riverbend Food Pickup, and provided transportation for individuals as needs arose. Dean enjoyed many sports, especially basketball, baseball, and softball. Over the years, he was an athlete, umpire, and fan. He particularly enjoyed being a fan of his children’s and grandchildren's teams, and of the Hawkeye Basketball team. Dean also loved cats and dogs, and, most of all, being a grandpa.
Surviving are his wife of over 63 years, Donna; children Susan Geise of Davenport, Bradley (Lisa) Geise of DeWitt, and Linda (Scott) Hoag, of DeWitt, grandchildren, Caitlin (Ben Bartels) Geise, Clay (Bailey) Geise, Amanda (Koby) Cleary, James (Summer) Grell, Jessica (fiancé Tony TouVelle) Grell; great-grandchildren; Audrey, Nikolai, and Oakley; his sister’s children, JD, Jeanine, Jeff, Jolene, Diane, and Darsha; sisters-in-law, Deloris Schatz, Delaine (Will) Niebuhr, and Joyce (Marvin) Flanscha; nieces and nephews.
