David L. Harbold

David Harbold, 76, of DeWitt, Iowa, died unexpectedly, Saturday, May 18, 2024, at home.

David LeRoy Harbold was born to Wayne and Betty (Jones) Harbold, in Clinton, Iowa. He grew up in DeWitt, where he graduated from Central Community High School in 1966 and spent most of his life. After high school, David proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Clinton Press and the railroad for a short time before a 15-year career at Caterpillar. Dave then worked for Donahoo Steel Treating in Bettendorf until retirement.

David’s life was filled with the joys of Midwestern simplicity and strong bonds with friends and family. Some of the fondest memories of his youth were spending summers working on his uncle's farm in Southern Iowa alongside his cousins. He was a member of the DeWitt United Methodist Church. Dave was known for his kindness and for helping others. He had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs and cats. He loved to garden and grew beautiful flowers around his home.

Surviving are his daughter, Lisa Wise of Cedar Rapids, a sister, Diane Harbold-Neil of Arizona, and his brother Merlyn Harbold of Chicago. Also surviving is his significant other, Nancy Aiken.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the DeWitt United Methodist Church, with a funeral service following at 12:00 noon, in the church. Military Rites will follow the service at the church. Dave will be laid to rest near his parents at Crossroads Cemetery in Plano, Iowa, on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, with a Graveside Service at 12:00 p.m.
