Darlene "Dar" Lange

Darlene “Dar” Lange, 70, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, following a prolonged illness.

Dar was born Darlene Kay Kainz on January 5, 1954, in Stanley, North Dakota, to Ervin and Doris (Foster) Kainz. Her family lived in many different places in the country, settling in Iowa when Dar was 9. She attended Central Community Schools in DeWitt. Dar married William Lange on March 7, 1970, at the DeWitt United Methodist Church. She worked as a bus driver for the Central Community School District for several years. The couple moved to Georgia in 1998. During their time there she completed her education, receiving a bachelor’s degree in education from Moultrie Tech, and worked for the Moultrie School District Transportation Department. They then moved to Florida where Dar drove school bus, and worked as a substitute teacher in the Gulf County School District. The couple moved back to DeWitt in 2023.

Dar enjoyed reading, shopping, and most of all, walking on the beach. She loved spending time with family. She always looked forward to having family visit in Florida.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Bill; sons, Bill (Theresa) of Ocala, Florida, and Chris (Amy) of DeWitt; granddaughters, Brooke, Mason, and Raegan, and grandson, Michael; great-granddaughter, Sophia; siblings, Aldean (Nancy) Kainz, Shelia (Al) Schrader, Kevin (Nancy) Kainz, and Diane (Tim) Bohmbach; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Eugene, David, and Jackie “Elmo”.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
