Daniel Kopp of DeWitt, Iowa passed away on Sept 3, 2024, after courageously battling Alzheimer’s for a number of years. His loving and faithful wife, Charlene (Carpenter), was steadfastly by his side as she helped him carry his cross.
Dan was the son of Norman and Modesta (Ertz) Kopp. He was born on May 25, 1946 in Lancaster, WI. Dan graduated in 1964 from Platteville High School. He is a graduate of Wisconsin School of Electronics in Madison, WI, and he graduated from UW Platteville with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Technology.
Dan and Charlene were married on October 4, 1969 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, WI. Together, they built a beautiful life for themselves and their two daughters, Angela and Britney.
Dan taught three years in Hazel Green, WI before beginning his career with John Deere in 1973. During his three decades with John Deere, he worked in Dubuque, IA, Davenport, IA Baltimore, MD, and Waterloo, IA. He retired from John Deere in 2008.
Dan was committed to his Catholic faith. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Platteville, WI and St Joseph's Catholic Church, in DeWitt, IA. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. Dan held the Grand Knight position in both the DeWitt and Platteville councils.
Party Man Dan was always looking for a good time. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing, trivia, playing cards and woodworking. He was also a Green Bay Packers fan.
Dan is survived by his wife, Charlene, daughters, Angela (Mike) Pauly of Collierville, TN, and Britney (Mark) Goodding of Eldridge, IA; and four grandchildren, Lane and Alayna Pauly, and Colten and Stella Goodding; siblings, Tom (Connie) Kopp, Joe (Kathy) Kopp, Mary Pothour, Rita (Dan) Steinbach, Ann (Jim Mueller) Runde, brother- and sister-in-law, Bill and Jean Anschutz, and sister in law, Paula Kopp.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Steve Kopp, and brother-in-law, Gene Pothour.
Visitation will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in DeWitt, Iowa beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Monday September 9th. The Funeral Services will follow at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made directly to St. Joseph’s Catholic School, to the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, or directly to the family to establish a memorial at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
