Dale Allan Holst, 59 of DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday afternoon, September 25, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.  He showed great strength, courage and gratitude throughout his short period of illness. 

The family will receive friends at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, from 2:30 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.  The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 1, in the Church with the Rev. Fr. Paul Connolly presiding.  Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt.  A memorial fund is being established.

Pallbearers will be Jim Lass, Buzzy Wiese, Gary Ketelsen, Dave Aude, Marty McDermott, Wayne Grantz, Rick Mangan, Galen Conrad, Toby King and Jim Rausenberger.  Honorary pallbearers will be nephews from the Holst and Kinney families.

Dale was born March 27, 1956, in DeWitt, to Jack and Arlene (Schnoor) Holst.  He grew up on a farm in rural Welton, Iowa.  Dale was a 1974 graduate of DeWitt Central High School.  On June 11, 1983, Dale was united in marriage to the love of his life, Annette Kinney at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, Iowa.  He worked for 35 years as the manager of Farm Service "FS" in DeWitt and Welton.  In Dale's years of service, he touched the lives of many farm families.  Following retirement in 2012, he worked as a route driver for EMJ in Eldridge, Iowa.  

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, the Lions Club, 4-H, Welton Volunteer Fire Department, St. Patrick Society of the Quad Cities and was a lifetime member of DeWitt Central FFA.  Dale was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and loyal friend to many.  He was very proud of his children who brought great joy to his life.  Dale was a man of the earth and the sun, loving the many wonders of agriculture.  He loved coaching and attending his children's sporting events and had a great passion for helping farmers.  His creativity was never ending in building the Kinney Family St. Patrick's Day float.  Dale cherished time spent at the annual Mulvihill Family Reunion in Decorah, Iowa.  He enjoyed traveling and turning strangers into friends worldwide, watching the Cubbies and was a recent convert to Patriots football.  

Surviving are his loving wife of 32 wonderful years, Annette; children, Adam Holst of DeWitt, Renee Arakelian and her husband, Matt of Boston, Massachusetts and Kale Holst and soon to be daughter-in-law, Laura Claussen of Farmington, Utah; his mother, Arlene Holst and mother-in-law, Grace Kinney; siblings, Deann (Dave) King, Dean (Lori) Holst, Donn (Nan) Holst, Dave (Tina) Holst, Tom (Kim) Holst and Michelle (John) Rausenberger; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tom Kinney, Rita (Larry) Linnenbrink, Monica Anderson, Clarice (John) Sundeen, Roger (Mary) Kinney, Teresa (Carlie) Grimm, Mary Sundeen, Dave (Ooy) Kinney, Jolene (Mike) Whittemore, Joyce (Pat) Barnes, Roberta (Gilbert) Lewis, Camilla (Jim) Lancaster, Lisa (Doyle) Fox and Brian (Cheryl) Kinney; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Dale in death were his father, Jack; a brother, Dennis; his father-in-law, Clarence Kinney and brothers-in-law, Bill Anderson and Bernie Sundeen.
