Corrin Blandin Obituary

Corrin (Claeys) Blandin, 54, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt, followed by an Open House from 4:30 - 8 p.m. in the parish hall.

Corrin Blandin was born September 16, 1970, in DeWitt, Iowa, to Francis and Shirley (Cleveland) Claeys. She was raised in Welton, Iowa, graduating from DeWitt Community Schools in 1989. Corrin continued her education at Iowa State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She married Geoff Blandin on August 6, 1994, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Welton. Upon graduation, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Ames area while Geoff pursued his Master of Science. Shortly after, they started their life together in DeWitt.  She taught at Maquoketa Middle School for several years before doing what she loved most, being a mom. Corrin was blessed to stay home and raise four children, while also staying connected to the education community through volunteer work. After her children started school, she returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher, later transitioning to full-time teaching in 2021.

Corrin was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the St. Joseph Home & School organization, where she spent numerous hours supporting the school staff. Corrin was a member of the DeWitt Junior Women, the Central DeWitt Music and Robotics Boosters Clubs, as well as a life-long member of the Iowa State University Alumni Association. She was also a leader of the Iowanna Junior 4-H club for 25 years, and volunteered at the DeWitt Referral Center.

She found her greatest joy in the simple moments spent with family, taking vacations together, girls’ weekends, and cheering on her kids in everything they did. A proud Iowa State fan, she never missed a chance to root for the Cyclones. Christmas was her favorite time of year, when she could bring the whole Claeys family together, fill the house with love, and carry on the traditions that meant so much to her. More than anything, she cherished the time spent surrounded by the people she loved most, taking walks with friends, and sharing joy through her contagious laughter.

She is survived by her husband, Geoff; children, Madeleine (Jackson) Tigges, Ethan, Isaac, and Elizabeth; a granddaughter on the way; siblings, Curtis (Diane) Claeys, Denise (Pat) Feldpausch, Marlaina (Jim) Recknagel, Colette (Chad) Christensen, Jay (Leora) Claeys, and sister-in-law, Jo Ellen Claeys; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Kevin and Todd.
