Churesa Pierce Obituary

Churesa Pierce, Chu Ja Jong, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2024, in DeWitt, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 25, 1941, in Daejeon, South Korea, to Jeong Haw Seob and Yun Mija, Churesa lived a life full of love, resilience, and dedication to her family.  Churesa was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a gifted and creative soul who shared her talent for crafting stunning flower arrangements. Her beautiful creations graced the church altar, bringing joy and beauty to all who saw them.

Our beloved mother was a devout Christian whose faith guided her throughout her life. In her youth, she aspired to dedicate her life to God. As the years passed, her boundless love and devotion found a new focus in her cherished grandchildren. Her face would light up with joy whenever she saw them. We take comfort in knowing that her grandchildren now have a guardian angel watching over them from above.

She leaves behind a legacy of love through her children: Sophia Pierce of Bettendorf; Holly Hawkins and her family (husband Joe Hawkins, children Summer and Jack) of Oswego, Illiois; Bo Schnurr and her family (husband Dave Schnurr, children Tyler and Morgen Schnurr (daughter-in-law) of Algona, Iowa; TJ Schnurr and fiancé McKenna Sims; and Johann Pierce and his family (wife Amy, children Ethan, Grace, and Isabelle) of DeWitt. She is also survived by her stepchild from her marriage to Rev. Fred Pierce, Suzann Pierce of Kenner, Louisiana, and her family, Maggie Baker of Tampa, Florida and Donavon Baker of Winnabow, North Carolina. Churesa is also survived by her younger sister, Ok Geun Jeong, who resides in Korea.

Churesa’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of laughter, and unforgettable memories. We will miss you!

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Maggie’s House for their loving care and compassion during her stay there.
