Cheryl Mae Neilson June 9, 1955 - November 17, 2023

Cheryl Neilson, 68, of Delmar passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023. Her family is devastated by the loss of their matriarch, and the suddenness of her death. Cheryl was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister who earned the appropriate nickname of "The Queen", but can be remembered quite simply in the phrase “family and friends.”

FAMILY...
Cheryl absolutely loved her family - cookie baking, grilling, and hanging out by the pond during the summer with her family was a joy for her. She attended countless sporting and music events for her kids and grandkids, and was thrilled for them and their successes. Cheryl spent most of her life with Clifford Neilson. They had been together since he and she were both 15, and they married July 20, 1974. They built themselves a beautiful home in the country outside Delmar, surrounded by their family and passions. Cheryl is survived by her husband Cliff, her children Chris "Bubba" (Greg) Hughes, Tony (Rachel) Neilson, her grandchildren Madison, Christian, Maelea, Keely, and Colby, as well as her sister Barb (Dennis) Hintze, and nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Wayne and Lucille (Diller) Drummond, and her great nephew Cael Burmeister.

AND FRIENDS.
Cheryl had perfected the art of being a friend. At her passing, she was still having monthly lunches with people she worked with 20 years ago. As owner of 61 Kartway and as a volunteer at the Rock Island Grand Prix, friends near and far respected and loved her. Upon her death, messages were sent from across the country mourning her passing. She made an impact on everyone she met, and somehow managed to remember every face, name, and story from their first meeting.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Monday, November 27, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with a celebration at Buzzy’s in Welton to follow.
