Charlie owned and operated Porth Plumbing, Heating & Electrical in Grand Mound until 1980, and worked as a heavy equipment operator for Operating Engineers Local 150, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the union for over 50 years, proudly receiving a gold watch. In retirement, he established Porth RV Park in Calamus, where he “never met a stranger”. He was married to Norma Weiss, with whom he had 7 children. They later divorced. Charlie married Karen Schwennsen Steffens on October 14, 1990. Their home was always in Calamus, but they enjoyed many winters in Texas and Louisiana.
