Charles Russell Kleiber

Charles R. Kleiber of DeWitt passed on Sunday March 6, 2022, at Westwing Place.

Charles R. Kleiber was born May 1, 1924, at the Ryburn-King Memorial Hospital in Ottawa, Illinois to Charles S. Kleiber and Dorothy (Nee) Wise Kleiber. Charles graduated from Hall Township High School of Spring Valley, Illinois in 1942. Following graduation, he worked briefly at the Rock Island Arsenal until he joined the US Army in March of 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force at an air base in rural England loading and working on B-17 Bombers. He was honorably discharged from the Air Corps as a Sergeant in October of 1945. Charles married Beverley J. Collison on June 15, 1946, in East Moline, Illinois. Following service to his country Mr. Kleiber worked in the auto parts business in Ottawa, Pontiac and Moline, Illinois, retiring in 1989 from the TRW Company. He was a member of the Eugene McManus American Legion Post of DeWitt, Iowa.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Dr. Pamela (Roger) Hill of rural Camanche, Iowa, his son, Charles Brian (Pamela) Kleiber of Holland, Michigan; four granddaughters, Lynette Kleiber McKinney Colman, Kristin Hill Spear, Julie Hill Ivory, and Courtney J. Kleiber; seven great-grandchildren, Paige, Mitchell, Jill, Carson, Jessica, Jane, and Jordan.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife Beverley in January of 2020, his parents, one sister Arlene Wenzel of Peru, Illinois, and one nephew.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Ottawa Avenue Cemetery in Ottawa, Illinois, where Charles will be laid to rest alongside his wife.

Memorials can be made to the American Legion of DeWitt, Iowa, or charity of choice.
