Carol Ann Roeder, 84, of Welton, Iowa, passed away Monday morning, September 28, 2020, at Wheatland Manor.
Carol Ann was born on April 9, 1936, to Leo and Catherine (Burke) Hand. She graduated from Our Ladies of Angels Academy in 1954 and Iowa State Teachers college in 1958. Carol Ann taught at the Elvira high school for 3 years prior to marrying Larry Roeder on August 12, 1961 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. They moved to the family farm in 1963, which has been in the family for 155 years, declared a Heritage Farm in 2015. Carol Ann was a life-long member of St. Anne’s Church in Welton, she taught Catechism for over 30 years. She enjoyed the Hawkeyes, traveling, 4-H, and genealogy. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Larry Roeder; children, Tom Roeder, Cedar Rapids, Rhonda (Mike) Evans, Tiffin, daughter-in-law Shona Roeder, Iowa City; grandsons, Nick, Shamus, Tristan, Teagan, Jacob and Joshua Roeder; sister, Mary Jo Schulte; in-laws Mary Ann Clark, Phyllis (Vern) Henrich, Kenny (Aletha) Roeder, and Jean Roeder.
Preceding Carol Ann in death were her parents, Leo & Catherine Hand, in-laws Ollie and Peggy Roeder, son, Ted Roeder and brother-in-law, David Clark and Bill Schulte.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2020, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Long Grove, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Welton Fire Department, DeWitt Historical Society, or FurFun Rescue, to honor the things she loved, Welton, History, and helping animals.
