Carol Ann Block Obituary

Carol Ann Block, 82, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Friday, February 11, 2022, at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland.

Carol Ann Olson was born November 24, 1939, to Nels and Alice (Grau) Olson in Calamus, Iowa. She graduated from Calamus High School and furthered her education at Waldorf College with a Teaching Degree. On February 25, 1962, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, David Glenn Block at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, rural Calamus. The couple farmed north of Grand Mound, where they raised their three children. David preceded her in death July 22, 2011.

Carol Ann was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound where she taught Sunday School, volunteered for V.B.S. for many years, and was active in the L.W.M.L. and Ladies Aide. She also served on the Clinton County 4-H fair board and worked as an aide in the Calamus school. She and David loved the winters they spent in Florida for many years. Carol Ann treasured all of her family and was known for sharing baked goods and remembering special occasions with visits, cards and phone calls.

Surviving are children, and their spouses, Betty and Scott Harksen of Camanche, Gregg and Denise Block of DeWitt, and Robert and Melony Block of Fort Worth, Texas; grandchildren, Courtney (Ben) Maher, Derek Harksen, Justin (Jessica) Block, Lucas (Rachel) Block, Chelsea (Sando) Davies, and Lynsea (Derek) Schurbon; great-grandchildren, Quincy Maher, Ellerie Block, Audrey, Elijah, and Hazel Davies; siblings, Myra Jean Peterson, Marlon (Snap) Olson, Leonard (Nancy) Olson, Harold (Jean) Olson, Myrna Kay Peterson, and Paul (Carla) Olson; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Arla Mae (David) Hernes, Nels (Geri) Olson Jr., Leon Olson, Victor Olson, and brother-in-law, Charles Peterson.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Church, with the Rev. Nathan J. Wille officiating. Burial and will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Per Carol Ann’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Genesis V.N.A., and Compassus Hospice.

Pallbearers are grandchildren and their spouses, Courtney & Ben Maher, Derek Harksen, Justin & Jessica Block, Lucas & Rachel Block, Chelsea & Sando Davies, Lynsea & Derek Schurbon.

Honorary Pallbearers are godchildren, Joel Block, Kevin Peterson, Jayce Block, Alan Olson, Kenton Younkin, Ole Olson, Ruth Hernes, Krista McNear, and Cindy Schulte.
