Carol Schunter, 85, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
Carol was born July 20, 1936, to Andrew and Alfrieda (Steen) Hartmann in Clinton, Iowa. After graduating from DeWitt High School, she was united in marriage to James Schunter on July 15, 1955, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. The couple farmed and later owned and operated Schunter Farm Equipment. Carol was the accountant for the multiple businesses owned by the couple. James preceded her in death on June 1, 2003.
Carol was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, where she was very active in the women’s ministries, and church activities of all kinds. She served at Grace Camp for close to 40 years, cooking for youth, summer, and winter camps, as well as being a longtime board member. She bowled in league for over 50 years, traveling to many national tournaments, and was inducted into the DeWitt USBC Hall of Fame in 2019. Family was always first in her heart, and she was honorary grandmother to 5 great nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, Becky Schunter and Nancy Schunter both of Davenport, Joel Schunter of West Orange, New Jersey, and Scott Schunter of DeWitt; brothers, Marvin Hartmann, Kenneth (Judy) Hartmann, and John (Clare) Hartmann; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Hartmann.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. A Service of Christian Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the church, the Rev. Eric Obermann officiating. Burial will be at Oakview Cemetery in Welton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Church Camp or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.
