Carol Hansen, 84, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away peacefully early Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Wheatland Manor.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2023, at the DeWitt Congregational U.C.C. Funeral Service will follow at 11:15 a.m. in the church, the Rev. Chris Marlin-Warfield officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
Carol Lynne Klaus was born November 10, 1938, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Paul A. and Bernice (Podhaski) Klaus. After graduating from high school in Manchester, she attended the University of Iowa, where she met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Hansen. They were married on June 25, 1960, in Manchester. They settled in DeWitt, where they raised two daughters. Carol furthered her education at Marycrest College, receiving a B.A. in Education. She taught preschool, worked at the ASCS office, and helped run the family business at Hansen Monuments.
Carol was a member of the DeWitt Congregational United Church of Christ, where she served on many boards and in various capacities. She belonged to T.T.T., P.E.O., and the American Legion Auxiliary. She also volunteered for numerous community services.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; children, Kelly Hansen (Paul Oehrlein) of Davenport, Kathy (Dan) Donahue of DeWitt; grandchildren, Leslie, Mitchell, Dana, Emily, Kyle, and Keri; 7 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ben (Mary) Klaus, and Tom (Ruth Ann) Klaus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Bryce Vance, and granddaughter, Jessica Vance.
