Carol Christensen Obituary

Carol Lee Christensen, 99, died peacefully on July 3, 2026, at Fieldstone of DeWitt. Family and friends are invited to a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Lost Nation Cemetery.

Born Febuary 25, 1927, Carol was adopted as an infant by Lee and Alma Jackson from an orphanage in Omaha, Nebraska. She was their only child. Carol spent her early years in Beaver City, Nebraska, and graduated from high school in Pierson, Iowa, in 1944.

Energetic and industrious, Carol truly loved to work. She attended beauty school in Des Moines before moving to Lost Nation, Iowa, in 1947, where she operated a beauty salon for nearly 50 years. Later in life, Carol worked at ACT headquarters in Iowa City.

Carol married Urbane Christensen on June 1, 1952, in Lost Nation. They enjoyed traveling and visited nearly every state prior to Urbane’s death in 1978. Carol continued to travel in the years that followed, touring Europe and Alaska.

Above all, she found joy in staying busy. From baking and yard work to needlework and sewing, Carol made good use of every moment. She participated in countless community activities, ever ready to lend a helping hand. Carol was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lost Nation, and later, Faith Lutheran Church in Calamus.

Carol was known for her independence, practicality, inner strength, and playful sense of humor. She had a soft spot for animals, a fondness for big band music and jigsaw puzzles, and was almost comically afraid of water. She was a generous neighbor, a loyal friend, a devoted mother and grandmother. Always content with what she had, Carol never asked for more.

Carol lived a long, full life and was dear to many people. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her two stepdaughters. Carol is survived by her son, Neil (Denise) Christensen of Calamus, Iowa; three granddaughters, Erin (Gerrit) Holst of Park View, Iowa, Leah (Neil) Eigenbrod of Princeton, Iowa, and Megan (Sean) Connor of Denver, Colorado; and two great-granddaughters, Abby and Claire Holst of Park View, Iowa. Carol was also grandmother to five step-grandchildren along with their children and grandchildren.

Cremation is being provided by the Schultz Funeral Home family at their crematory in DeWitt. Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com
